Wyrd Sisters, adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs tells the story of a kingdom in peril with a full cast of witches, royalty, ghosts, guards, robbers & peasants.
The kingdom of Lancre is in turmoil: King Verence has been murdered, his infant son has been spirited away with a group of travelling players and an evil Duke & Duchess are on the throne. Only the three witches, Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick can put the Discworld to rights. Core Theatre was delighted to be able to bring a slice of the Disc-world to Bath.
One of the biggest thrills was that some of the cast actually got to meet the man himself. Terry Pratchett was in Bath and was kind enough to spare us some of his time, signing a copy of his book which we gave away in a draw we ran in the Bath Chronicle…and we got some great photos for the Core album!
This show was one of our most successful productions to date, with sell-out shows and great feedback from the audience. Wyrd Sisters was Core Theatre’s sixth production.
The success of the show was down to all the hard work put in by the actors and production team. We would like to thank Paul Kidby for allowing us to use his artwork, which added an extra level of authenticity to the production.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing – the venue is most suited to theatre ‘in the round’. The play has 23 scenes so to reduce the scene changes we used light and sound rather than complex scenery changes. We may have ‘gone minimal’ with the scenery however we more than made up for it in costume, thanks to Bath Theatrical Costume Hire, who helped us to bring Pratchett’s characters to life.
